TASKING APPOINTED FIRST MASTER DISTRIBUTOR FOR EMWARE'S EMIT SOFTWARE

Sales representatives from over 10 countries meet to strategize on worldwide launch

Amersfoort, The Netherlands — November 9, 1999 — TASKING today announced that the firm has been appointed a Master Distributor for emWare's EMIT device networking software. TASKING was selected because of the firm's 25 years of experience as a tools developer in the embedded industry, and its ability to provide value-added applications engineering services to embedded developers worldwide. TASKING's worldwide sales and support experience, extensive international offices, and solid relationships with microcontroller manufacturers were also key to this appointment, which is effective immediately.

EMIT device networking software has been designed to manage any device on any network using any user interface. With it, developers of products based on 8- or 16-bit microcontrollers can achieve a level of connectivity once reserved for products based on 32-bit microcontrollers. Application examples include remote monitoring of vending machines, building environmental controls, security systems, telecommunications equipment, medical instruments, and other products that enable dramatically lower response time and service costs, as well as increased customer satisfaction.

"A company's success is often determined by the channels it establishes," said Scott Raban, emWare's Vice President of Marketing. "In addition to their strong worldwide sales and support organization, we selected TASKING for this key distribution assignment because they have a long-standing commitment to the Extend The Internet (ETI) Alliance, their existing software tools complement EMIT, and they bring extensive knowledge of the embedded industry to the partnership."

TASKING recently formed and trained an Embedded Applications Services group at its European headquarters in Amersfoort to address the needs of customers like those that use EMIT. At a joint global meeting at emWare's offices today in Salt Lake City, representatives from over 10 of TASKING's European and Asian offices met to strategize on a worldwide sales and services plan for the TASKING and EMIT products.

TASKING has incorporated EMIT into its Embedded Development Environment (EDE) — an integrated development environment for all of the microcontrollers, microprocessors and DSPs that TASKING supports. One such device is the M16C microcontroller from Mitsubishi, a member of the ETI Alliance along with TASKING and emWare. According to Jack Sardegna, Director of MCU Product Marketing for Mitsubishi's Electronic Device Group, "Mitsubishi selected TASKING to develop tools for the M16C because of TASKING's extensive worldwide presence, strong microcontroller experience, and reputation for quality development tools."

Galileo Technology, the world leader in Ethernet switching ICs, is looking to the TASKING tools to help enable an entirely new class of managed Ethernet switches. Said Mitch Kahn, Galileo's Vice President of Market Development, "TASKING's tools and emWare's EMIT software enable our customers to get Web emPowered switches up and running in no time."

Reflecting on this announcement, Scott Taitel, TASKING's President and COO, said, "We are very excited about leveraging our many years of embedded experience to successfully distribute EMIT products worldwide. TASKING has been known for years for having the highest quality tools in the industry. But what's particularly gratifying about this news is the recognition of TASKING's ability to provide value-added applications engineering services to assist companies worldwide introduce remote connectivity for 8- and 16-bit embedded applications."
