TASKING SLE88 Tool Suite Offers Top-Notch Performance and Security for Smart Card Technology

New Tool Suite Completes TASKING's Coverage of the Infineon Processor Families

Dedham, MA, September 25, 2000 — TASKING, The Embedded Communications Company, released the SLE88 Tool Suite, V1.1, targeting Infineon Technologies' first 32-bit Smart Card solution. Designed to maximize the SLE88's security and performance strengths, the TASKING tool suite gives designers the resources they need to create secure operating systems that serve as a base for independent product development by third parties as well as support for the execution of multiple applications. TASKING will demonstrate this superior technology through an interactive Smart Card demonstration at Booth #222 during the Embedded Systems Conference, September 26-28, in San Jose, California.

Recognizing the need to provide high performance in a compact form factor, the SLE88 Tool Suite minimizes the memory footprint of applications through a shared library concept that uses a secure development environment flexible enough that designers can tailor the debugging capabilities to the application they are developing. The strong cooperative relationship with Infineon Technologies resulted in a highly optimized assembly instruction set designed for applications written in C, giving developers low-level control with the high-level efficiency of C. With a range of support from compiler optimizations to superior debugging capabilities and support for all SLE88 derivatives, TASKING ensures that Smart Card developers gain the efficiency and resources needed to reduce time-to-market and maximize the SLE88's performance and security features.

"Smart Card technology demands performance and security, and we have optimized the TASKING tool suite to make the most of the SLE88's high-end capabilities," says Harm-Andr Verhoef, TASKING's MCU/Smart Card Product Marketing Manager. "Drawing from our relationship with our licensed Smart Card developers, we have built a tool suite that is second to none for completeness and performance."

"With this tool suite for the SLE88, a secure 32-bit controller with the fastest support of real multitasking in Smart Card technology, TASKING again proves its commitment to the emerging Smart Card market," notes Brian Mulcahey, TASKING's VP of Worldwide Corporate Marketing. "In addition to extending our embedded communications offerings, this tool suite sets TASKING apart as the only vendor to provide coverage of all Infineon processor families."

The SLE88 Tool Suite includes a C/C++ compiler, an assembler for the SLE88's core and Peripheral Control Processor, a linker/locator and special post locator that builds applications by linking secure shared libraries in virtual memory space. Extensive cooperation and joint development between the two companies ensure that TASKING's CrossView Pro and Infineon Technologies' simulator execution engines offer a seamlessly integrated debugging experience for the developer. The tools, bundled in one package, can be configured and controlled from TASKING's award-winning Embedded Development Environment.

Availability:
The TASKING SLE88 Tool Suite, V1.1, is available now on MS-Windows with solutions on Linux, HP9000 and Sun/Solaris available on request. The tools come in various bundles and include a simulator execution engine developed by Infineon Technologies.
