Altium innovation makes a mark, again:
- Altium wins an IDC Enterprise Innovation Award.
- Altium CIO, Alan Perkins, named as a finalist for the Asia/Pacific ‘CIO of the year’.
Altium CIO Alan Perkins’ work on cloud computing implementation has been recognized by the IDC Asia/Pacific Enterprise Innovation Awards. Each year the IDC, a market intelligence firm, chooses ten organizations that have ‘used technology, IT projects and IT systems in innovative ways to derive the highest strategic value and yield the greatest value for their organization’.
Over 200 organizations were nominated for the award, and Altium was chosen for its highly successful adoption of cloud-based applications. Alan was nominated to win the IDC Asia/Pacific CIO of the year award. Alan is one of the very few Australians to be named a finalist. Neither Alan nor Altium nominated themselves for this award, which shows how influential his work has been.
At the ceremony, Alan delivered a short presentation on how he and the Altium team applied numerous cloud computing applications to improve Altium’s internal and external service levels. This has been a highly successful project that has been detailed in leading publications such as CIO magazine, MIS Australia and Nett Magazine, earning Alan a reputation as a leader in his field.
Over the last few years Alan has been an active advocate for cloud computing, delivering numerous presentations on behalf of Salesforce and Google, including Cloudforce (Salesforce’s cloud computing event held only one day after the IDC Enterprise Innovation Awards). His team’s hard work was independently recognized by the IDC.
Technology & Business Magazine has recently reported on Altium's move to cloud computing. The article 'Altium looks to the cloud to focus on its core' uses Altium's experience to shows that the cloud concept can be successfully implemented, allowing the IT department to support the core business, rather than maintaining company systems.
