Jiangsu City Vocational College introduces new electronics engineering course, integrates Altium Designer as part of its teaching program
SYDNEY, Australia – June 10, 2010— A new course jointly developed by Altium and Jiangsu City Vocational College has been selected as the “Course of Choice” by the Jiangsu Province Department of Education. The course, Electronics Products Boards Development, is designed to bring the electronics engineering curriculum up to date. The joint initiative is part of Altium’s Academic Program which the company started in 2008 in China. The program aims to cultivate the next generation of Chinese electronics engineers and contribute to the development of the country’s electronics design industry. Altium addresses these goals by helping a number of Chinese higher education institutions and secondary schools improve the electronics engineering courses and curricula they offer.
“Jiangsu and its neighboring provinces have the most established electronics industry in China. It is no surprise then that out of the more than 170,000 students in Jiangsu City Vocational College and its sister colleges, more than 30,000 are electronics majors. With such a large student population, we needed to offer courses that are both effective and practical,” said Qian Qi, Secretary, Electronics Engineering Department, Jiangsu City Vocational College.
“The Electronics Products Board Development course is the only “Course of Choice” offered by Jiangsu City Vocational College that has been approved by the Jiangsu Province Department of Education. We are very pleased to have Altium’s world-class electronics engineering design software as one of our teaching tools. We believe that Altium Designer can help significantly improve the students‟ design skills and the teaching quality of our school,” Qi added.
Students taking up the Electronics Products Board Development course at Jiangsu City Vocational College will use Altium Designer as part of their curriculum. The software will serve as a training tool to further enhance the students‟ skills in circuit design, analysis and testing, and other basic engineering design processes.

In addition to Jiangsu City Vocational College, Altium has also partnered with Tsinghua University, South China University of Technology and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. The company was also a sponsor of the 2010 National Electronics Talent Competition, which was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
