The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is responsible for forecasting the nation’s weather events and rainfall, monitoring an area of 7 million km², which is 32 times larger then the United Kingdom. Providing this vital information is an Australia-wide network of 70 radars systems, all of which are developed and controlled by the BOM’s Radar Group.
Twenty years ago, the BOM chose Altium technology to design its range of radar processors and controllers used in this network. Twenty years later, the BOMs uses Altium Designer to develop the complex multi-layer embedded boards for the wide dynamic range and low noise performance digital receivers used in its radar systems.
"Altium Designer is the most appropriate tool to design our signal processors, radio frequency circuits, power and servo control systems. We use a wide range of technologies for our operations, so our design tool needs to be flexible, easy to use and capable of designing complex circuits in a mixed analog and digital signal environment. Because we touch on so many disciplines, Altium Designer’s intuitive user-interface allows us to complete our designs in the most efficient and effective manner."
