TASKING Demonstrates First Software Development Tools for CARMEL

Santa Clara CA, DSP World Spring 1999 Conference, April 26 1999 — TASKING demonstrated the first software development toolset for the CARMEL DSP from Infineon Technologies AG. This integrated toolset consists of the Embedded Development Environment EDE, ANSI C compiler, C-like assembler and the CrossView Pro debugger that includes a cycle accurate simulator. This combination of tools and integration gives engineers the ability to get up and running quickly and sustain that momentum until the end of the project.

"Close cooperation with Infineon Technologies CARMEL team enabled us to deliver software development tools that gives users access to the CLIW (Configurable Long Instruction Word) technology", said Lorraine Miller, VP of Worldwide Marketing for TASKING. "This ability, together with the smooth integration of the software tools really jump starts project development".

"The combination of TASKING strength in software development tools and Infineon Technologies experience in providing a high performance, low power consumption DSP core creates the synergism for setting worldwide standards in the fields of open architecture DSPs," said Dr. Soenke Mehrgardt, Executive Vice President and CTO, Infineon Technologies.

TASKING has utilized its 20 years of experience developing compilers to respond to DSP customer demands for a product that has the performance of assembly language with the ease of use of a C compiler. TASKING's C-like assembler offers function-like instructions for math, procedures, program-flow and hardware repeat instructions, all written in a syntax very similar to C.

Tool integration has been achieved by using TASKING's award winning Embedded Development Environment EDE. With features such as:

  • Project file management,

  • Point and click target configuration,

  • Powerful editor and MAKE and build utilities and

  • Open interface for integrating other tools, TASKING's EDE delivers a development environment that enables a project to get started and finished quickly.

CrossView Pro, TASKING's debugger, provides all the features needed for testing and debugging the application. To facilitate a rapid-edit-compile-debug process, CrossView Pro has:

  • Point and click access to all features,

  • Record and playback for QA,

  • Code coverage and performance profiling for program tuning and

  • Two debug environments, cycle accurate simulation and On Chip Debugger Support (OCDS),
these features give the project team a product that can be used through all the phases of testing and debugging.

Available now on Windows 95/98/NT.

TASKING is a developer and supplier of integrated software development tools for the embedded systems market and supports a wide range of CISC, RISC, microcontroller and DSP semiconductor technologies. TASKING's knowledge of embedded systems results from the merger of three companies BSO, Intermetrics Microsystems and TASKING which are now embedded together to make their customers more successful. The three companies bring over 20 years of experience each, starting in 1974 with BSO pioneering the concept of cross development.

TASKING has offices worldwide including Dedham, MA (headquarters), San Jose, California, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy and Japan.
