KB: Un-Routed Net Violations When Pad Centers Are Outside Polygon Coverage

Altium Designer Altium Designer
Un-Routed Net violations may be reported even though pads appear connected through a polygon. This can occur when a pad or via uses a direct polygon connection, but the center point of the object is not covered by the polygon area. In this case, the connectivity check considers the connection incomplete and reports an Un-Routed Net violation. To resolve the issue, extend the polygon to cover the pad or via center, add direct copper routing between the affected objects, or disable the Check for incomplete connection option if appropriate for the design.

Solution Details

Un-Routed Nets Reported Despite Visible Connections

DRC reports Un-Routed Net violations and displays missing connection markers between pads, even though the pads appear connected through a polygon.

Pad Center Outside Polygon Coverage Area

The violation occurs when a pad or via is configured to use a direct connection to a polygon, but the center of the pad or via lies outside the polygon area. The connectivity check associated with the Polygon to Pad/Via rule requires the center of the pad or via to be overlapped by the polygon for the connection to be considered complete.

Available Methods To Resolve Issue

  • Extend or modify the polygon shape so that the center of the affected pads is covered by the polygon area.
  • Route copper directly between the affected pads within the polygon area.
  • Disable the Check for incomplete connections design rule option if this behavior is acceptable for the design requirements. Disabling the option removes the reported violation but does not change the actual polygon geometry.

Verify Connectivity And Correct Polygon Coverage

  1. Identify the pads involved in the reported Un-Routed Net violations.
  2. Inspect the polygon connection around the affected pads.
  3. Verify whether the center point of each pad is covered by the polygon area.
  4. If the pad center is outside the polygon, adjust the polygon boundary to cover the pad center.
  5. If disabling the rule is not desired, route copper directly between the affected pads as a workaround.
  6. Alternatively, disable the Check for incomplete connections option. To disable the incomplete connection check:
    1. Open Design » Rules.
    2. Navigate to Electrical » Un-Routed Net.
    3. Edit the applicable Un-Routed Net rule.
    4. Clear the Check for incomplete connections option.
    5. Click OK to save the rule.

  7. Repour the polygon and rerun DRC to confirm the violations are cleared.
