KB: Replacing Firebird 2.5.6 in AIS Due to a Reported Security Vulnerability

Security Vulnerability Identified in Firebird 2.5.6

Customers may report a security vulnerability in Firebird 2.5.6.2702 installed with Altium Infrastructure Server (AIS) 1.0.4.95. In some cases, attempts to replace the database version can result in installation failures or database-related errors.

Compatibility Restrictions and Installation Conflicts

AIS supports only Firebird 2.5 and does not support Firebird 3.0 or later. In addition, uninstalling AIS does not automatically remove Firebird. Leftover Firebird files or folders from previous installations can prevent AIS from connecting to its database during setup.

Recommended Database Version and Approach

• Use Firebird 2.5.9 with AIS.
• Do not install Firebird 3.0 or later, as these versions are not supported by AIS.
• Perform a complete removal of AIS and Firebird before reinstalling.

Clean Installation Procedure

1. Uninstall AIS using the AIS uninstaller.
2. Uninstall Firebird using the Firebird uninstaller.
3. Delete any remaining files and folders from:
   • C:\Program Files (x86)\Altium\Altium Infrastructure Server
   • C:\Program Files (x86)\Firebird
   • C:\ProgramData\Altium\InfrastructureData
   • C:\ProgramData\firebird
4. Restart the computer.
5. Install Firebird 2.5.9.
6. Verify that the Firebird service is running.
7. Install Altium Infrastructure Server 1.0.4.95.

Additional Notes

• If the following error occurs during installation, Firebird was likely not completely removed before reinstalling:

  

  To resolve this error, uninstall Firebird, remove all remaining Firebird files and folders, restart the computer, reinstall Firebird 2.5.9, and then reinstall AIS.

• AIS does not support Microsoft SQL Server as a replacement database platform.
• There are currently no plans to update AIS to support Firebird versions later than 2.5.x.
