Altium wins inaugural Software and Embedded Systems category in 2008 Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Awards
Sydney, Australia, 22 September 2008 – Altium Limited, the world’s leading developer of unified electronic product development solutions, has won the inaugural Software and Embedded Systems category in this year’s Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Awards.
Engineers Australia is Australia’s national forum for the advancement of engineering, and acts as a national advocate for the science and practice of engineering, the adoption of engineering as a professional career, and the celebration of engineering excellence in all its forms.
The Engineering Excellence Awards are run by Engineering Australia’s Sydney Division. They recognize the commitment of engineering to the community at large, to engineering excellence and rigour, and to innovation in the designs submitted. They are Australia’s peer engineering awards.
Altium won the inaugural Software Embedded Systems category with Altium Designer, the world’s only unified electronics design solution. The award acknowledges the engineering vision and rigour in the continued development of Altium’s unified solution. The award also acknowledges a number of world-firsts that have gone into Altium Designer over the years: its single data model at the centre of the solution; real-time 3D visualization of printed circuit boards, and real-time 3D clearance checking between printed circuit boards and the cases into which they will be placed as part of the overall design; and the strategic decision early in its design to adopt Microsoft Windows as the operating system.
The awards reflects the culmination of many years’ research and development, which has continued as Altium has grown to become a US$55.8 million worldwide IT success,
“For the development team here at Altium, this is an outstanding accolade,” said Nick Martin, Founder and CEO of Altium. “Altium continues to drive our research and development towards next-generation electronics design solutions. Our vision has always been to provide the best possible electronics design solution on the desktop of every engineer. Next-generation electronics design will be very different from yesterday’s approach of using disparate point tools loosely tied together. The single view of the electronics design process, providing a single view to every engineer on a design project of all the processes required to take a product from concept to the customer, remains at the heart of Altium’s solution.”
Altium Limited (ASX:ALU) provides world-leading unified design solutions that break down the barriers to innovation, and help organizations easily harness the latest devices and technologies to create their next generation of electronic products. Altium’s solutions are unique because they unify the separate processes of electronics design, all within a single electronics design environment, working off a single data model, which links all the aspects of electronics product design into one process. Founded in 1985, Altium has headquarters in Sydney, Australia, sales offices in the United States, Europe, Japan, China, and resellers in all other major markets.
