Summary

This command is used to place a Split Line object into the active design document. A Spit Line is a PCB drawing object used to define Board Regions. Split lines placed across an area of PCB, as defined by the board shape outline, split that area into two Board Regions. Each Board Region can have a unique Layer Stack assigned to it – layer stackups as defined with the Layer Stack Manager.

Access

This command can be accessed from the PCB Editor when configured in Board Planning Mode by choosing the Design » Define Split Line command from the main menus.

Access this command quickly by using the D, S keyboard sequence.

The current viewing mode for the PCB document can be changed using the corresponding commands from the main View menu. To switch to Board Planning Mode, use the command of the same name or use the 1 keyboard shortcut.

Use

After launching the command, the cursor will change to a cross-hair and you will enter split line placement mode. Placement is made by performing the following sequence of actions:

Click or press Enter within the board shape. One end of the line will attach to the closest point on the board shape outline to where you clicked; the other end of the line will attach to the directly opposite edge of the shape.
Move the cursor to position the other end of the split line, then click or press Enter to place it. The split line will remain blue if the location is valid. An invalid location (e.g., outside of the board shape) will cause the split line to turn red. If you click to place while it is red, the split line will be removed.
Continue placing further split lines or right-click or press Esc to exit placement mode.
