Summary

This command is used to paste one (or more) component definitions from the clipboard, into the component definitions region of the active Component Library document.

Access

This command can be accessed from the Component Library Editor by:

Choosing the Edit » Paste Component command from the main menus.
Right-clicking over a component definition, or in free space within the region, and choosing the Paste Component command from the context menu.
Using the Shift+Ctrl+V keyboard shortcut.

Use

Component definitions from the clipboard can be pasted in two ways into the definitions region of the Component Library document:

At the end of the current list of definitions - make sure there are no definitions currently selected, then launch the command.
Overwriting a current definition - right-click over the definition to overwrite and launch the command. A dialog will appear asking you to confirm, click Yes to proceed. Any existing defined cell data will be overwritten with that from the pasted definition.

Note that overwrite only works with the focused definition. If multiple definitions exist on the clipboard, only the first will be pasted 'over' the focused definition, with the remainder pasted at the bottom of the list of definitions.

Tips

The pasted data is available from the Clipboard panel. The panel can store a number of objects that can be added (pasted) to various document types within Altium Designer at any stage, allowing for multiple copy/paste operations.
The Clipboard panel supports a variety of data formats, depending on the origin and object type. It can be set to display either only objects copied or cut from within the Altium Designer environment, or the entire Windows clipboard - controlled by the Monitor clipboard content within this application only option, on the System - General page of the Preferences dialog. Be aware that not all data types are supported by each design editor, and that objects that are not supported will not be pasted.
Clipboard panel content is not persistent across design sessions. All content will be cleared when the software is closed and restarted.
