KB: Project with Local Edit Only
Created: 12月 10, 2025 | Updated: 12月 10, 2025
Altium Designer displays a “Local Edits Only” status when a project is opened with restricted permissions. This means you can make changes locally, but those edits will not sync to the server. Typically, this occurs when the project is shared with you under “Read Only” rights and the option “Viewers can download the project” is enabled. If download rights are disabled, you cannot open the project at all. To remove this status, request edit rights from the project owner, an editor, or a workspace administrator. Additionally, if the workspace license expires, projects automatically switch to view-only mode, so ensure your subscription is valid.
Solution Details
What Does "Local Edits Only" Mean?
When opening a shared project in Altium Designer, you may see the status Local Edits Only next to the project name. This indicates that any changes you make will remain local and will not be saved to the server.
Why Does This Status Appear?
- Project that was shared with you has the permissions changed from Read/Write to Read Only
- The option Viewers can download the project allows you to open the project but prevents saving changes to the server.
- If download rights are disabled, you cannot open the project in Altium Designer.
- Expired workspace licenses automatically switch projects to view-only mode.
How Can You Fix It?
To remove the Local Edits Only status:
- Contact the workspace administrator, project owner, or a user with edit rights.
- Request that the project be shared with you using Edit Rights.
- Verify that your workspace subscription is active.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Check your current permissions in the Altium 365 workspace.
- If you have Read Only rights, request an upgrade to Read/Write from the project owner or admin.
- Confirm that the workspace license is valid to avoid automatic view-only restrictions.

Additional Notes
- Local edits will not sync to the server unless you have edit rights.
- Expired subscriptions affect all projects in the workspace, switching them to view-only mode.
