After setting MPN ranks and selecting favorite suppliers in ActiveBOM, users may find that these changes are not saved. When the document is closed and reopened, the previously configured ranks and supplier preferences are missing.

The issue is caused by invalid characters in the component descriptions. These characters interfere with the save process, preventing ActiveBOM from writing changes to disk.
