Circuit Board Trace
On a circuit board, a trace or track is a line that connects two pads or it can have a non-electrical function. A complex circuit board design will require creating and managing a large number of traces to complete the design. Autorouters can help with quickly placing traces, but they can sometimes be more trouble than they’re worth.
Altium Designer makes using our autorouter headache-free but allowing you, the designer, to still control the process of placing traces by making it interactive. In Altium Designer’s PCB Editor, when you place a trace, the software monitors the click location and automatically adopts the net name of an existing object. It also obeys any design rules you have in place.
When you place a trace, an Interactive Routing Dialog will appear that lets you:
Choose trace width
Resolve any conflicts
Select Interactive Routing options
