Electronic Component Identifier
Annotating electronic components is one of the necessary tasks of PCB design. If your design platform doesn’t offer a component identifier to make it easy to link schematic components to PCB components, then you need to considering switching to Altium Designer.
Altium Designer offers a technology to maintain synchronization called the Unique IDentifier system. The Unique IDentifier is a system-generated value that identifies the source component and matches each schematic component to the corresponding PCB electronic component.
Using this technology, you can easily execute change orders that will maintain synchronization, such as:
Performing Annotation updates
Schematic to PCB design updates
Parameter updates made using the Parameter Manager
Whenever you compare the PCB and schematic, Altium Designer first matches components that share the same Unique IDentifier. When components are detected that do not share a Unique IDentifier, you are alerted and the application can try to match them by designator.
