The following pre-packaged resource, derived from this base command, is available:

Applied Parameters: None

Summary

This command is used to place a Module Entry object onto the active Multi-board Schematic document (*.MbsDoc). A module entry is placed within a module to designate a connection point, and is actively associated with pins and nets on the connector in the child PCB design referenced by the module. The overall multi-board system design involves interconnection of modules (through associated module entry objects), providing a logical capture of how the multiple PCBs in the design are connected.

For a high-level look at multi-board design within Altium NEXUS, see Designing Systems with Multiple Boards.

Access

This command can be accessed from the Multi-board Schematic Editor by:

  • Choosing the Place » Entry command from the main menus.
  • Locating and using the Entry command () on the Active Bar.
  • Right-clicking in the workspace and choosing the Place » Entry command from the context menu.

Use

After launching the command, the cursor will change to a cross-hair and you will enter module entry placement mode. Placement is made by performing the following sequence of actions:

  1. Move the module entry attached to the cursor over a placed module on the document.
  2. Adjust the position of the entry in relation to an edge of the module, then click to anchor the entry to the required edge and complete placement.
  3. Continue placing further module entries, or right-click, or press Esc, to exit placement mode.
The coloring of the entry will aid in its correct placement. While outside of a module, the entry will be partially presented and appear grayed out, and you will be prevented from placing it. When over a module, the full (and colored) entry will appear, indicating it can be placed at that location.

Tips

  1. Most aspects of a placed entry are available for editing through the Properties panel. If the panel is already open, simply select a placed entry to populate the panel with its associated properties. If the panel is not open, double-click on the entry to access it.
  2. Defaults for this primitive type can be defined on the Multi-board Schematic - Defaults page of the Preferences dialog.
