Embedding the Altium 365 Online Viewer in a Website or Product

Design data locked inside a Workspace is only useful to people with Workspace access. Embedding a viewer brings that data into any internal tool or product without requiring Altium credentials.

The Altium 365 embeddable viewer lets you surface Workspace design data – schematics, PCB layout, 3D, BOM – directly inside your own web applications, internal portals, or partner-facing products. The viewer renders directly from your Altium 365 Workspace. Engineers, managers, manufacturing partners, and other stakeholders see current design data in context, without switching to Altium 365 and without needing a workspace seat.

You control what is shown: which views are enabled (schematic, PCB, 3D, BOM), which designs are accessible, and who can access them. The data source is always your Workspace; the viewer is the presentation layer you embed where it's needed.

Why Embedding Matters

Most people who need to see a design don't need to edit it. A firmware engineer checking pin assignments, a mechanical engineer confirming board outline, a procurement lead reviewing the BOM, a contract manufacturer inspecting a release package – all of these are viewing tasks, not editing tasks. But they currently require either Workspace access, a file export, or a manual sharing step that creates a static snapshot that goes stale.

An embedded viewer eliminates this friction. The right people see the current design where they already work. No exports, no separate logins, no stale files.

Integration Patterns

  • Internal engineering portal – embed the viewer in your company's internal product data portal or project tracking system. Engineers reviewing a project ticket can inspect the current PCB design without leaving the portal. Cross-probing between schematic and layout works as it does in Altium.

  • Firmware and software development tooling – embed the viewer in your firmware team's environment so developers can inspect schematics and pin configurations without installing Altium or requesting Workspace access. The viewer surfaces the hardware context firmware engineers need for their work.

  • Manufacturing partner portal – give contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators access to design data through your own portal, scoped to what they need to see. They interact with current release data without direct Workspace access, keeping your full design IP behind your access controls.

  • Management and program visibility – surface design status and content in program management dashboards. Stakeholders who need visibility but not editing capability get it in their existing tools.

What the Embedded Viewer is Not For

The embedded viewer presents design data for review. It does not provide programmatic access to design data for downstream processing – that is the Altium 365 API's role. It does not support editing. It is not a replacement for Workspace access for people who need to create, modify, or manage design content.

The viewer is appropriate when the user's need is "see the design." The API is appropriate when the system's need is "read or write design data." Both can be used together in the same application.
