No ERC

Now reading version 17.0. For the latest, read: No ERC for version 17.1
Applies to Altium Designer versions: 15.1, 16.0, 16.1 and 17.0

The No ERC dialog. The Violation Types table is automatically displayed when the dialog is opened from a Specific No ERC (during or after placement).

Summary

This dialog allows the designer to specify the properties of a No ERC object. The No ERC marker is placed on a node in the circuit to suppress all reported warning and/or error violation conditions that are detected when the schematic project is compiled. Use this to deliberately limit error checking at a certain point in the circuit that you know will generate a warning (such as an unconnected pin), while still performing a comprehensive check of the rest of the circuit.

The No ERC marker cannot be modified graphically, other than changing its location. To move a No ERC marker, click and hold while dragging it to a new location.

Access

The No ERC dialog can be accessed during placement by pressing the Tab key. Enter placement mode by selecting Place » Directives » Generic No ERC, or Place » Directives » Specific No ERC which opens the Place Specific No ERC dialog. Select which errors to suppress and click OK to begin placement.

After placement, the dialog can be accessed in one of the following ways:

  • Double-clicking on the placed General or Specific No ERC object.
  • Placing the cursor over the No ERC object, right-clicking and choosing Properties from the context menu.

Options/Controls

Graphical Properties

  • Orientation - Specify the orientation of the marker, counter-clockwise in relation to the horizontal. Options available are: 0 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, 270 degrees.
  • Symbol - Specify which symbol to use for the marker. The No ERC marker supports a number of different styles, and can be displayed in any color. Use this ability to reflect the design intent for this point in the circuit. Supported symbols are: Thin Cross, Thick Cross, Small Cross, Check Box, and Triangle.
  • Color - Click the color sample to change the color of the marker, using the standard Choose Color dialog.
  • Location X/Y - The current X (horizontal) and Y (vertical) coordinates for the center point of the marker's bounding rectangle. Edit these values to change the position of the marker in the horizontal and/or vertical planes respectively.
  • Locked - Enable this option to protect the marker from being edited graphically.
An object that has its Locked property enabled cannot be selected or graphically edited. Double click on the locked object directly and disable the Locked property, to graphically edit the object.

Electrical Properties

  • Active - Enable or disable this option to turn the No ERC directive on or off without deleting it from the sheet. Once the Active option is enabled, the following control options become available:
    • Suppress all violations - In this mode all possible warning or error conditions are suppressed.
    • Suppress Specific violations (select to choose) - In this mode only the selected warning or error conditions are suppressed, any other warning or error will be detected and reported. With this option enabled, you can select specific errors to suppress using a table of violation or through a connection matrix.
  • Show - Select from the following choices how you wish to set which violations to suppress:
    • Violation Types - Violations in the document are listed in columns which include Report Mode information. Check the box under the Suppress column to select which violations to suppress.
    • Connection Matrix - This view contains a matrix of possible electrical violations that can exist in the document. Check boxes to select which violations to suppress.
