The following pre-packaged resource, derived from this base command, is available:

Applied Parameters: None

Summary

This command is used to browse for, and choose, the required existing Component Item in the target server, to be used as the linked Item in which to release the selected component definition.

For the most part, the creation of the Component Items in the target server is left to be part of the release process. You add your component definitions, assign Item IDs and away you go – Item creation 'on-the-fly' as it were. However, you may have created (or want to create) Component Items directly in the server, then link to these existing Items. Alternatively, you may want to change the target Component Item associated with an existing, released component definition.

Access

This command can be accessed from the Component Editor when configured in Batch Editor mode by:

  • Selecting a single component definition (in the lower grid region) and choosing the Edit » Operations » Change Link To Target Item command from the main menus.
  • Right-clicking over a component definition (in the lower grid region), and choosing the Operations » Change Link To Target Item command from the context menu.
Note that the command will only be available on the respective menu when a component definition is selected. If multiple component definitions are selected, the command operates on the focused definition - distinguished by a dotted border around its selected cell.
If the Component Library Editor is currently in Single Component Editor mode, switch to the Batch Editor mode using the Tools » Switch to Batch Editor command.

Use

After launching the command, the Choose Target Item dialog will appear. If the selected component definition is already linked to a Component Item, then the dialog will present this Item, already selected. If the definition is not already linked, then the dialog will present the target folder (as defined for the definition).

Browse the target server for the required Component Item that you want to map the selected component definition to, select it, then click OK - the link will be created (or changed if an alternative Item has been selected).

Be sure to save the Component Library document, since the link information is stored in the document.

Tips

  1. Once linked to an existing Component Item in the target server, the Item ID for the component definition will become grayed-out (un-editable).
