2D System Colors

Modified by Phil Loughhead on Jun 16, 2017

The 2D System Colors Dialog.

Summary

This dialog allows the designer to choose desired colors for each layer in the current project. The designer can also save, load, rename and remove color profiles.

Access

From the View Configurations dialog (in PCB Editor, shortcut L), click the 2D Color Profiles button in lower left corner to access the 2D System Colors dialog.

Options/Controls

  • Saved Color Profiles - Lists the names of the currently saved 2D color profiles. Click on a name to view the color profile. Click OK to use the color profile and close the dialog.
  • Explore Folder - Opens the folder where the Saved Profiles are located.

Actions

  • Save color profile - Save the currently active color profile with the current color settings.
  • Save As color profile - Save the current color settings into a new color profile. The file name given to the new color profile will be used to identify it in the list of color profiles.
  • Load color profile - Load a previously saved color profile.
  • Rename color profile - Save the current color profile under a new name.
  • Remove color profile - Delete the current color profile.

Active color profile

  • Layers / Color - Lists all available layers and their associated colors. To change the color of a given layer, first select it from the Layers list and then select a new color from the Basic, Standard or Custom tabs.

  • Basic - Basic color pattern, with which the designer can change the active layer color. Select Add to Custom Colors to save a color to the Custom Colors section for later use.
  • Standard - Standard color pattern, with which the designer can change the active layer color. Select Add to Custom Colors to save a color to the Custom Colors section for later use.
  • Custom - Custom color pattern, with which the designer can customize the active layer color. Select Add to Custom Colors to save a color to the Custom Colors section for later use.

  • Previous - Displays the color of a selected layer in the Layer column. When a new color is selected for the layer, this rectangle will retain the previous color for comparison.
  • Current - Displays the new color that is configured for a selected layer in the Layer column. When the designer clicks to choose a new color in Basic/Standard/Custom Pattern, this new color will be displayed in the Current area.

  • Custom colors - This area shows colors that have been saved for re-use by the designer. Choose a color from this area directly to configure a new color for the active layer. The default customized color is White.
  • Add to Custom Colors - Click to add the selected color to the Custom colors area.

If you make any changes to your 2D color settings and want to keep them, save the color profile (from the Actions area) before closing the dialog.

2D color settings are system-based. All PCB documents will use the current 2D color profile.
