  1. What capabilities does Altium Designer Viewer license have?

    The Altium Designer Viewer license lets you interrogate all aspects of a design. For example, opening a PCB document you may zoom, select, view object properties, generate reports and print. You cannot edit the design documents in any way, such as changing the physical layout or object properties, and documents cannot be saved. The viewer does not support any translation, editing or saving of files. The Altium Designer Viewer license can also view CAMtastic documents.

  2. What versions of Altium Designer projects/documents can I view?

    The latest winter 09 release of Altium Designer Viewer license (Build 8.3.0.16941) can view design files created in the winter 09 release of Altium Designer, as well as the summer 08 release of Altium Designer, Altium Designer 6, Altium Designer 2004 and DXP. Files from Protel 99 SE and earlier products are not supported.

  5. Can I install Altium Designer Viewer license on other computers and use the same activation details?

    No, the Altium Designer Viewer license is node locked to a single computer and cannot be installed on a second computer. The license is node locked during the product activation using the supplied customer number and activation code, and each machine needs to be activated individually. Further licenses can be requested from your local Altium Sales & Support Center.

  6. Can I have the Altium Designer Viewer license and a full installation of Altium Designer on the same computer?

    It is recommended that you do not install the Altium Designer Viewer license on a computer that has the full version of Altium Designer on it. By installing both versions, you may experience issues with opening recognized file types and stability may also be affected.

  7. How do I activate the Altium Designer Viewer license?

    Install Altium Designer Viewer license on your PC then run the application. The software will launch and open the Licensing screen. If this page does not appear, click on DXP » Licensing. On this screen, ensure the Standalone option is selected (default). You have the option to activate your license using the web or email – click on the appropriate link below Available Licenses. You will then be required to enter your customer number and activation code into the Activation Wizard. You will also need to verify your contact details and ensure you enter a valid email address to receive the license file.

    Once you have completed the Activation Wizard, you will receive an email with a *.ALF license file attached. Save this file to your hard drive. Return to the Altium Designer Viewer application Licensing screen and click Add License File, and browse for the *.ALF file.

    Your Altium Designer Viewer license is now ready to use.

  8. How long can I use my Altium Designer Viewer license for?

    The Altium Designer Viewer license is issued for a 12 month period. After 12 months you will require a new license to activate the product again.

  9. My Altium Designer Viewer license has expired - how can I renew it?

    Go to the Download Altium Designer Viewer page and complete the form to request a new license. Once you receive your new license activation details you will need to activate the product again. Note: If you already have Altium Designer Viewer license installed, you will not need to reinstall the product.

  10. I am currently using an old version of Altium Designer Viewer license. How do I upgrade to this new version that supports the winter 09 release of Altium Designer?

    The new winter 09 release of Altium Designer Viewer is an independent installation. If you have a previous version of the Altium Designer Viewer license installed, you are not required to remove it, but if you do wish to remove it before the new version is installed, do so by using Add or Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Once the new Altium Designer Viewer license is installed, run the Product Activation using your Customer Number and the Activation Code supplied. If you have not been supplied with new activation details for Altium Designer Viewer, contact your local Altium Sales & Support Center.
