FPGA journal turns five

The respected online publication FPGA Journal has now been underway five whole years. If that doesn’t seem like an impressive history, consider just how long that is in terms of semiconductor development – a multiplication factor not unlike dog to human years.

What’s also striking is that in that time FPGAs have evolved from small-capacity, breath-takingly expensive devices to the affordable, high-capacity devices we use today. Along with tracking this development, Kevin Morris, the journal’s knowledgeable and prolific editor, has been trumpeting the revolutionary advantages of FPGAs from the start. And in doing so, he champions the development of tools that can really harness the full potential of FPGAs in today’s electronic product design.

Altium has also been in there right from the start to develop those tools, and as you would expect Morris mentions that Altium is now one of the main players in this burgeoning market.
“The rest of the EDA industry,” he says “is either too focused or too unenlightened to see the wisdom of maintaining a strong presence in the fastest growing segment of digital electronics design.”

Words that not only apply to tool vendors, but also electronics designers that are yet to see the light of the FPGA Journal’s candles.
