Envision – what's new, changing and over the horizon

Welcome to the June 2010 issue of Envision. With Altium Designer Release 10 about to be launched, this special issue of Envision shows you some of the great new technology included in this groundbreaking release. We also take another, more detailed look at the new high integrity design release process, find out how Altium Designer helped embed a protocol analyser in an aerospace cable and provide another helpful hint in our regular Tech Tip – plus more.

A closer look at Altium’s new Design Release Process

Design release management
The groundbreaking design configuration and release technologies in Altium Designer Release 10 have set a new benchmark for what’s possible in high integrity data management. In the last issue of Envision we introduced concepts, development path and principles behind this new system. This installment provides more detail, based on the follow up webinar video.

JUNE TECH TIP
Did you know that Altium Designer has an easy to use, accurate distance measurement tool built right into the board editor? If you need to check the precise spacing between pads, mounting holes or tracks, on any layer (including non-electrical layers), the right capability is there at your fingertips. Here’s a quick overview of how it works.

New HDL Simulation Engine from Aldec
Altium has partnered with Aldec to take Altium Designer's HDL simulation capabilities to a whole new level in Release 10. Aldec's high performance Advanced Simulation Engine (for VHDL and Verilog) is now incorporated into Altium Designer as an OEM technology. See the video here or read the press release (PDF).

Touch sensor design just got more affordable
If you’re in Europe, take a look this great way to incorporate the latest touch sensor designs in your products. You can find all the details on the Altium-Atmel Touch Technology microsite.
