Placement - Component Orientations

Now reading version 17.1. For the latest, read: Placement - Component Orientations for version 21
Applies to Altium Designer versions: 16.0, 16.1, 17.0 and 17.1

Rule category: Placement

Rule classification: Unary

Summary

This rule specifies allowable component orientations. Multiple orientations are permitted, allowing the Autoplacer to use any of the enabled orientations.

Constraints

Default constraints for the Component Orientations rule.

Default constraints for the Component Orientations rule.

  • Allowed Orientations– the chosen orientations that are made available for use by the Cluster Placer. The following orientation-based options are available:
    • 0 Degrees – allows the Autoplacer to rotate a component to the 0° orientation.
    • 90 Degrees – allows the Autoplacer to rotate a component to the 90° orientation.
    • 180 Degrees – allows the Autoplacer to rotate a component to the 180° orientation.
    • 270 Degrees – allows the Autoplacer to rotate a component to the 270° orientation.
    • All Orientations – allows the Autoplacer to rotate a component to any of the four individual orientations.

In each case, rotation is relevant to the orientation of the component in the source library.

How Duplicate Rule Contentions are Resolved

All rules are resolved by the priority setting. The system goes through the rules from highest to lowest priority and picks the first one whose scope expression matches the object(s) being checked.

Rule Application

During autoplacement with the Cluster Placer.
