New in Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server

This release sees further beneficial enhancements to the Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server and its related technologies. In addition, numerous fixes have been made to resolve issues raised by customers through the Altium Community.

While the Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server installer includes an automated backup of your existing installation, it is always a good idea to make a pre-update backup of your data yourself – taking a redundancy copy off to one side, as it were. This provides additional safety should any unforeseen technical difficulties arise (see Backing up and Restoring Your Installation). It is advised to test out a new release of Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server on a different machine, before updating your production instance. The use of Virtual Machines can be invaluable in this respect.

In addition, please ensure that you refresh your Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server licensing. From the Admin – Licenses page of the Workspace browser interface, delete the existing Server/CAL licenses and then add fresh instances back in. This will ensure you have the latest licensing, incorporating any licensing-related feature changes.

While connection to the Workspace provided by Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server 8.0 is possible from earlier versions of Altium Designer, users are encouraged to update to the latest version – especially where Workspace enhancements relate to changes to the user interface within Altium Designer.

Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server 8.0.1

Released: 4 December 2025 - Version: 8.0.1 (build 50)

Release Notes for Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server

Single Sign-On Support

Administrators of your Enterprise Server can now configure and enable Single Sign-On (SSO) capabilities for your server. When set up for server users, SSO offers the convenience of signing in to the server using the same set of credentials that apply to your company-wide systems.

From a new Admin – Settings – Authentication page of the Workspace's browser interface, administrators can establish, test, enable and disable the SSO capability for server users. SAML and OAuth / OIDC options are available.

When authentication is configured and saved in the Enterprise Server setting, the SSO option is available for users when accessing the Workspace' browser interface.

SSO access can also be used when connecting to the Enterprise Server Workspace from Altium Designer. For more information, refer to the Accessing Your Workspace page.

For more information, refer to the Configuring Single Sign-on Authentication page.

Updated Permission Inheritance System

In this release, the automated logic of the hierarchical access permissions system has been improved and additional options for controlling where permissions are applied and inherited has been provided.

The new system allows management of entities' permissions (subfolders, projects, items) from their parent folders. You can allow to inherit permissions of these entities from permissions of their parent folders.

Along with folders and projects, the permission inheritance system also applies to items and their constituent revisions.

  • Each new item/subfolder will have inheritance enabled. Top-level folders will always have inheritance disabled.

  • For items/subfolders that existed before updating to the Enterprise Server version 8.0, the migration inheritance will be enabled only if their permissions are compatible with permissions of a parent folder. For example, if the Projects top-level has a Read permission for Everyone, Project1 within this folder a Read permission for Everyone and the Engineers group and the Project2 is shared with the Administrators group only, Project1 will have inheritance enabled and Project2 will not after the update.

For more information, refer to the Managing Content Structure & Access page.

Access Audit

In this release, features that allow auditing who has access to which content in the Enterprise Server Workspace have been implemented.

  • On the Projects page, use a new filter drop-down ( ) to constrain the listing to a specific document type, owner and/or who has access.

The Filters window offers filter selections for project Type, project Owner, or who Has Access. Click the options to see more entries.

Select one or more types of projects to immediately filter the project grid view to include only those documents. Use the section Clear or Clear All to revert.

Select one or more Workspace users to filter the project listing to those owned by them. The Owner is typically the project author/creator.

Select a user in the Has Access filter to view their accessible project documents.

  • An additional Review Accesses option is available for a group entry listed on the Groups page. This option will open the Projects page with the Has Access filter option automatically enabled for that group – the page will therefore include only those projects the members of the group have access to.

For more information, refer to the Workspace Projects page.

Where Used Improvements

In this release, the Where Used functionality has been improved.

  • Added support for design variants as part of the Where Used feature. If a component is placed not in all variants of a Workspace project, the project's entry in the Where Used region of the Components page's the right-hand information pane now shows the list of variants in which the component is used. Also, this list is shown on the Where Used tab of the Component view.

In this example, all instances of a capacitor component are used in the base ([No Variations]) and Advanced variants of a project, but they are Not Fitted in the project's Default variant.

When the component is selected on the Components page, the information pane lists the variants in which the component is used.

The list of where the component is used is also shown in the Where Used tab of the Components view for that component.

For more information about Workspace components, refer to the Workspace Components page.

  • Usage of components in Workspace projects is now tracked at the level of specific component revisions instead of component items. When browsing component revisions in Altium Designer's Explorer panel, the Where-used aspect view tab will show entries of projects highlighted when this specific revision is used in these projects. Otherwise, the project entries will be dimmed.

In this example, the latest revision (revision 2) of a component is used in two projects, so project entries on the Where-used aspect view tab are highlighted when revision 2 of the component is selected but not for revision 1.

In this example, an older revision (revision 1) of a component is used in a project, so the project entry on the Where-used aspect view tab is highlighted when revision 1 of the component is selected but not for revision 2.

For more information about browsing Items through the Explorer panel, refer to the Browsing Items page.

Sorting Improvements

The UI of the Enterprise Server Workspace's browser interface has been enhanced to make available sorting of the following entities:

  • Projects by their descriptions. When the Projects page of the Workspace browser interface is in project preview mode (), click the  button and select Sort by Description. When the Projects page is in listing mode (), click the Description column header (and click again to toggle between ascending and descending order).

For more information about Workspace projects, refer to the Workspace Projects page.

  • Components by their parameters. On the Preview tab of the Component view, click the icon at the right of the Parameters column header to toggle between ascending and descending order.

For more information about Workspace components, refer to the Workspace Components page.

Tasks Dashboard Enhancements

The Tasks dashboard view has been enhanced when working with process workflow tasks.

The Search field now supports searching across process workflow tasks by any process variable/parameter defined therein.

In addition, the Task Details right hand pane has also been improved. With a process workflow task tile selected, you now have the ability to access the pane's Activity view that shows full details of the process to which the selected task relates, including a chronological list of workflow events that track the sequence of user activity.

For more information about process-based workflow tasks, refer to the Working with Tasks page.

Authorization Module Changes

Changes have been made to the authorization module. To continue using Release & Publish to PLM functionality in Altium Designer, a registry update in Windows is required on the machine where the Enterprise Server is installed. In a Windows Command window (CMD) with Administrator privileges, run the following:

reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters" /v UrlSegmentMaxLength /t REG_DWORD /d 2048

This change increases the allowed URL segment length, which is necessary for supporting the system's new features. Note that after applying this change, you must restart your computer for the modification to take effect.

For more information, refer to the Information for IT Departments page.

Support for Teamcenter PLM

Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server now supports Teamcenter® PLM version 2406 for PLM integration processes.

For more information about Teamcenter PLM support, refer to the Setup for Teamcenter PLM page.
