Summary

The Create new component dialog is used to select the type of component when adding a new component. Once added, the component will be displayed in the Projects panel, and the Single Component Editor will open.

Access

The dialog is accessed from any editor in the following ways:

  • Select File » New » Component from the main menus.
  • Select File » New » Library from the main menus, then in the New Library dialog that opens, select Create Library Content » Component from the Workspace region of the dialog.
  • From the Manufacturer Part Search panel, right-click on a component then select Acquire from the context menu.

To access this dialog, you must be conneted to a Workspace.

Options/Controls

  • Search – use the text box to enter the component type for which you want to search. The list of component types will be filtered according to the search string entered.
  • Component type list – select the desired component type from the list, then click OK, or double-click on the component type.

    • If a component type is referenced by multiple Component Templates, these Templates will be presented under the entry of this component type.
    • If a Component Template has no default component type defined, it will be presented under the <Undefined> entry of the Create new component dialog.
After double-clicking a component type or selecting a component type and clicking OK, the Single Component Editor opens as the active document in the main design window from where you can define the new component (displayed as New component in the Projects panel) in terms of description, parameters, etc. After defining the new component, the Projects panel will display the new component.
