Created: June 9, 2022 | Updated: June 9, 2022
This documentation page references Altium NEXUS/NEXUS Client (part of the deployed NEXUS solution), which has been discontinued. All your PCB design, data management and collaboration needs can now be delivered by Altium Designer (with Altium Designer Enterprise Subscription) and a connected Altium 365 Workspace. Check out the FAQs page for more information.

Parent page: SystemDesigner Commands

The following pre-packaged resource, derived from this base command, is available:

Applied Parameters: None

This command is used to place a Rectangle object onto the active Multi-board Schematic document (*.MbsDoc).

For a high-level look at multi-board design within Altium NEXUS, see Designing Systems with Multiple Boards.

This command can be accessed from the Multi-board Schematic Editor by:

  • Choosing the Place » Rectangle command from the main menus.
  • Locating and using the Rectangle command () on the Active Bar.
If the command has been recently used from the Active Bar, it will become the active/visible button. Where other commands are available, this is indicated by a triangle at the bottom-right corner of the button. Click and hold on the active button to access a menu of all associated commands for that grouping.
  • Right-clicking in the workspace and choosing the Place » Rectangle command from the context menu.

After launching the command, the cursor will change to a cross-hair and you will enter rectangle placement mode. Placement is made by performing the following sequence of actions:

  1. Click to anchor the starting point (first corner) of the rectangle.
  2. Move the cursor to adjust the size of the rectangle and click to anchor the opposite vertex, thereby completing placement.
  3. Continue placing further rectangles, or right-click, or press Esc, to exit placement mode.

  1. Placement will observe snapping options for the document, if enabled. Snapping can be defined in the General section of the Properties panel (set to present the Document Options, when no objects are selected in the workspace).
  2. A rectangle can be graphically modified after placement. Click on its boundary to select it - editing handles will appear at its four corners. Click and drag a handle to resize the rectangle. Click anywhere on it - away from editing handles - and drag to move to a different location within the workspace.
  3. Most aspects of a placed rectangle are available for editing through the Properties panel. If the panel is already open, simply select a placed rectangle to populate the panel with its associated properties. If the panel is not open, double-click on the rectangle to access it.
  4. Defaults for this primitive type can be defined on the Multi-board Schematic - Defaults page of the Preferences dialog.
