图形工具

Draftsman provides a range of graphical element tools that can be used to place basic, free-form drawing elements in a document. The type of graphical tool to be placed can be selected from the Place main menu.

  • Place a graphic element by clicking to position its first node/point and then again to place following nodes, therefore determining its size – such as the length for a line, the radius for a circle, the distance between opposite vertices for a rectangle or text box, or the dimensions of a placed image graphic. The nodes will snap to the nodes or guidelines of other objects, and optionally, the document snap grid if enabled.

  • Placed graphical elements can be moved by selecting and dragging, or when multiple elements are selected. Individual nodes can also be selected and moved. Select a placed graphical element to enable more options in the Properties panel.

For more information, refer to the Draftsman Placement & Editing Techniques page.

Line

A line (Place » Line) is a graphic object that can be placed on a Draftsman document sheet. A line object can be used to manually create custom graphics, as well as to create templates for items such as an information table, which contains specific data about the document itself.

The visual style of a placed line is configurable in the Properties panel when the line is selected in the design space ().

Properties

Start Point (X/Y) The X-axis and Y-axis values of the line's start point (the first point placed).
End Point (X/Y) The X-axis and Y-axis values of the line's end point.
Line Style Use the drop-downs to select the line thickness and pattern used to render the line. Available options are defined in the Line Styles region of the Properties panel when no object is selected in the design space. Arc

An arc (Place » Arc (By Center) or Place » Arc (3 Points)) is a graphic object that can be placed on a Draftsman document sheet and set to the desired arc angle, radius and line style. A Draftsman arc can be placed using a center or three-point method.

A center mark object can be attached to an arc's radius origin and then used as a binding point for linear, ordinate, or angular dimensions.

When a placed arc is selected, editing handles/nodes are available at its center, perimeter and start/end points.

  • Click and drag the arc's center node to reposition it on the drawing document.

  • Click and drag a start or end point node to alter the arc angle.

  • Click and drag the perimeter node to change the radius of the arc.

Advanced manipulation of an arc is available by pressing the Ctrl key while moving an editing node:

  • Click and drag a start or end point node to alter its location while retaining the arc angle.

  • Click and drag the perimeter node to alter the size of the arc while retaining its start and end points.

A video demonstrating arc graphical editing techniques is shown below.

The visual style of a placed arc is configurable in the Properties panel when the arc is selected in the design space ().

Location

(X/Y) The X-axis and Y-axis values of the arc's center point, relative to the document origin.

Properties

Radius The radius (center to perimeter distance) of the selected arc.
Start Angle The angle of the arc start point relative to the arc center in the X-axis.
End Angle The angle of the arc end point relative to the arc center in the X-axis.

Styles

Line Style Use the drop-downs to select the line thickness and pattern used to render the arc's outline. Available options are defined in the Line Styles region of the Properties panel when no object is selected in the design space. For more information, refer to the Setting Up a Draftsman Document page. Use the associated color button to specify the color of the line.

Region

A region is a closed shape object that can be placed on a Draftsman document sheet to indicate a specific area in a drawing. The region object shape can include angle-based curved lines and a solid color or ANSI pattern fill.

A placed region
A placed region

The steps to place a region are:

  1. Select the region placement command (Place » Region). The cursor will change to a crosshair, indicating region placement mode.

  2. Click to place the first vertex of the region shape.

  3. Move the cursor then click to place the second vertex of the region shape.

  4. Continue to place further region vertices to complete the region shape.

  5. After the final vertex is placed, right-click or press Esc to complete the region shape back to the first-placed vertex. There is no need to manually close the region as the software will automatically complete the shape by connecting the start point to the final point placed.

Straight lines will be drawn between each vertex as they are placed, however, the Shift+Spacebar shortcut can be used to cycle through other line options such as a 90° corner, 45° corner, curved 90° corner, or curved 45° corner. Once an option is selected, use the Spacebar to toggle the direction of the corner.

The size, shape, and location of a placed region can be graphically edited. Select a region by clicking on its fill or outline. Once selected, editing handles/nodes are available at each of the shape's vertices.

  • Click, Hold&Drag any part of the region, but not a node, to reposition it on the document.

  • Click, Hold&Drag a corner vertex node to move it to a new location and alter the region shape.

  • Click, Hold&Drag the center mark of a line to move that line in the perpendicular (maintaining its angle), to a new location.

  • Ctrl+Click, Hold&Drag a node to delete it from the shape or press Delete while dragging a node to delete it from the shape.

  • Ctrl+Click, Hold&Drag on a line, but not its center mark, to add a new node.

Outline Vertices

Vertex Table

A tabular list of each vertex (node) in the region shape in their placed order including their (X/Y) locations and associated line arc angles. Each entry may be manually edited to update the rendered region shape.

The Arc Angle entry will define the curve radius of the vertex connection line – from that node to the next. When edited, the resulting curve shape corresponds to the arc segment of an equivalent circle, through the specified angle (). Enter a negative angle to invert the arc curve.

Click to duplicate the selected vertex entry, which will insert a new vertex (in the same location) into the region shape.
Click to remove the selected vertex from the region shape.

Graphic

A graphic object (Place » Graphic) is an image container that can be placed on a Draftsman document sheet and populated with a standard image file (*.png*.jpeg*.jpg*.jpe*.jfif*.gif*.bmp*.svg).

A placed graphic container object with its loaded image

The visual style of a placed graphic is configurable in the Properties panel when the graphic is selected in the design space ().

Location

(X/Y) The X-axis and Y-axis values of the graphic container's reference location (bottom left corner position).
Rotation The rotation angle of the object, i.e., the displayed image.

Properties

Width The width of the selected graphic object.
Height The height of the selected graphic object.
Maintain Aspect Ratio

When enabled, the X/Y dimensions of the graphic container will scale in proportion to the aspect ratio of the source image. The source image will always fill the graphic container. When disabled, the image is stretched to fit exactly into the drawn frame size.
