Edit Project Variant

Created: September 28, 2017 | Updated: March 5, 2018

The Edit Project Variant dialog

Summary

The Edit Project Variant dialog allows you to edit the properties of a variant.

Access

The dialog is accessed by clicking Edit Variant button in the Variant Management dialog after selecting an available variant.

Options/Controls

  • Description – enter an appropriate description of the Variant, which will be used as an identifying label.
  • Allow variation of fabrication outputs – check this box to allow variations of fabrication outputs (as well as assembly variation outputs).
In terms of PCB Configurations, if the option to allow fabrication outputs is enabled for a variant, that variant can be used to drive the outputs for configurations targeting both Blank Board and Assembled Board Items.
This is an enhancement to the way in which variants can be used in that it allows you to vary a fabrication output. Although it is the fabrication output that is being changed, it is only changing the silkscreen output based on a variation in the component's Comment parameter. You cannot change any other aspect of the fabricated board, such as the routing, the layout of the components, or the layer stack.
  • Parameters – this region is a list of variant parameters (name and value). Parameters are added and edited via the Parameter Properties dialog.
  • Add – click to open the Parameter Properties dialog to add a parameter for the variant.
  • Remove – click to delete the selected parameter(s).
  • Edit – click to open the Parameter Properties dialog to edit a selected parameter.
